Granada, Spain and my visit to the Alhambra

Image
Coming from Ronda, Granada had more of a big city vibe, but I loved it all the same. I was drawn to Granada by word-of-mouth reviews. Granada is known for its Moorish style architecture, the birthplace of flamenco, the street art, and Moroccan influence. Granada is especially known for its majestic Moorish palace, the Alhambra. It became clear to me as I was deciding where to go after Ronda that the Alhambra was a do-not-miss. Read more here . Here are some pictures I took during my time exploring the famous Alhambra. The views of the city and the Sierra Nevada mountains were spectacular:

I Really Really Love Ronda, Part Three: The Waterfalls

Hiking to the waterfall took my stay in Ronda to another level. The hike itself was very challenging, and involved a lot of climbing large rocks and problem solving and risk taking. You want to swim in the falls? You got to earn it. Here are some pictures of the "path": My first attempt to get to the falls was during the dusk, and I went with another solo traveler from Austria. We got 3/4 of the way there, because we were short on time (no way I am getting stuck there in the dark) and also because we did not think it was possible to go further. We enjoyed the small pool of water and small waterfall we arrived to. The next day I learned that there was a bigger and better waterfall, and so I went on attempt number two with my Estonian roommate. She knew what she was doing. Once there, we spent some time at the falls, watching rock climbers and cliff jumpers (I was not so bold), soaking in sun, and taking dips in the water. So. If this sor...

I Love Ronda, Part 2: Los Molinos

Image
My hostel really exceeded my expectations. View of the hostel from the city The family who owns/manages the hostel were so lovely, by my second day it felt like home. And the views from the hostel were really something. View at dusk: View during the day: When I first arrived, I was worried I unknowingly chose a bad location. The views were great, sure, but it seemed so far from the city and I did not know how to get to the city without calling an expensive taxi. My first morning, my roommate (from Estonia) showed me how to get to town on foot: a twenty minute uphill hike. I appreciated how she made getting to town feel more like an adventure than a chore. I am realizing that the people I meet and the vibe of the hostel can greatly impact my experience of a city. If I didn't enjoy the company of the other travelers staying at Los Molinos, maybe I wouldn't have loved my time in Ronda so much.
