My weekend in the Eastern Region

Image
This past weekend I joined my friend, Nanayaa, and her husband, Obed, on a trip to the Eastern region where we helped put on a program for SOS Children's Village in Asiakwa.  This was our ride- much nicer than a tro-tro! The orphanage was the nicest I have seen so far in Ghana. Nanayaa and I spent some hours visiting with the children. Here are pictures of us with some of them- Mama Dee and the quadruplets! Part of the program was cooking dinner for the children- My dinner, boiled yam with kotombre stew and egg and fish- After dinner was the show, complete with dance performances, dance competitions (these kids can dance!) and a performance by an Afro-rap Gospel group called Preachers. Here are a few pics from the program- The No Juju dance- Here I am with Mama Dee, who I adored. She had so much personality and so much energy, I couldn't get enough of her! ...

or have a fancy home. I just want to go to sleep at night knowing my labor had heart, I've loved fiercely and lived close enough to the edge that I can see the waves kiss the rocks." -Dave Buchanan

Meet Me There

Image
Meet Me There beach resort is located in the Volta region of Ghana in the city of Dzita. It is owned and run by a young British man named Tigo.  Meet Me There bar and restaurant.  Sunset on Friday, January 17.  Saturday morning, a local woman fishing in the lagoon.  Saturday morning, a group of fishermen.  Meet Me There as seen from across the lagoon.  Canoe rides! Beach day! A fishermen's boat on the ocean coast.  Fishermen out at sea.  Finding mussels in the water.  Saturday's sunset.  Sunday morning, feeding fish from the dock.  Jumping off the dock was great fun! Leaving Sunday afternoon. Bye Dzita, thanks for the good times!
